Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter essay

                                             Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
In this movie by 김기덕 , (during the spring part) a boy monk ties a frog , a snake, and a fish to a small rock. They have immense difficulty and the fish and snake die because of the rock. An older monk ties him to a rock the size of his arm trying to teach him to learn the same way. He orders him to find the animals. He frees the frog and bury the rest. I have a same experience.
A year ago in summer break, I brought a few small crabs from some wetlands. It died in 1 week. If I had left there it probably lived for a few more months. I feel sorry for the crabs. I learned not to play with nature after that. Because my mom first recommended it, I didn`t get any punishment. I hadn`t known the consequences. So I don`t think I deserve the punishment.
Also I have witnessed and have prevented the same crime on that same day. A six- year- boy was playing with a crab and was about to kill it. I told the boy not to do it and kept an eye on him. After a few warnings, he stopped. I am still proud of that moment when I think of it now.
In my opinion of the movie, I think the old monk was a little too harsh. He should have told him to find the animals without the rope. Some parts were weird though. The old monk appearing on the land when there was no boat, turning candles of with his hand, and the bedroom with no walls. I will recommend only the first 15min to kids. The rest, my teacher says is for adults.

  1. Good writing. And some impressive opinions. I really enjoy eating crab, so I feel a bit guilty after reading your post. However, I guess if we kill crabs for a reason it isn't as bad as just killing them for fun. Although your crabs died, I'm sure you gave them something to talk about. You made life interesting for them for at least a little while.

    Good work.
